Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Islington)
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The successful candidate will provide essential support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them thrive both academically and socially in a supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support pupils with a range of SEN needs, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social-emotional challenges.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support, ensuring pupils can access learning tailored to their individual needs.
- Use visual aids, sensory resources, and structured learning techniques to enhance engagement.
- Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation, using positive reinforcement strategies.
- Support pupils in developing social skills, independence, and confidence in a nurturing environment.
- Adapt learning activities and provide differentiated support to ensure inclusivity in the classroom.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
- Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment in line with school safeguarding policies.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with SEN in a school or childcare setting is essential.
- A valid DBS check is required, or willingness to obtain one before starting.
- Knowledge of SEN strategies, such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory integration techniques, is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children’s learning and well-being.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to different classroom environments.
