Overview
As a Deputy SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), you will play a crucial role in supporting the school's SENCO in ensuring that the special educational needs of students are identified and met. Your experience and expertise in SEN will be pivotal in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the SENCO in identifying and assessing students with special educational needs.
- Collaborating with teachers and parents to create and implement individual education plans (IEPs) for SEN students.
- Providing guidance and training to teachers and support staff on strategies for meeting the needs of students with SEN.
- Monitoring the progress of SEN students and making appropriate adjustments to support them in their learning.
- Contributing to the development of school-wide policies and practices to promote inclusion and diversity.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with students with special educational needs is essential.
- Strong knowledge of SEN, including relevant legislation and best practices.
- Experience in a similar role within an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Qualifications in special education, educational psychology, or related fields are advantageous.
Day-to-day
As a Deputy SENCO, you will work closely with the SENCO to coordinate support for students with SEN. You will collaborate with teaching staff to ensure that the individual needs of SEN students are met within the classroom. This may involve participating in meetings with parents, liaising with external agencies, and providing ongoing support and guidance to the school community in matters related to special educational needs.
