Start Date: September 2025
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (dependent on experience)We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Head of Science to lead our Science department from September 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator to take on a leadership role in a well-established secondary school in Hertford.
The Role:
- Lead and manage the Science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
- Develop and implement an engaging and ambitious curriculum.
- Monitor and improve student progress and attainment.
- Support and develop a team of Science teachers, promoting collaboration and professional development.
- Manage department resources effectively to maintain a high-quality learning environment.
- Contribute to whole-school leadership and development initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate:
- A qualified teacher with QTS and a strong academic background in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
- Experience teaching Science at KS3-KS5, with a track record of strong student outcomes.
- Previous leadership or management experience (e.g., Head of Department, Second in Department, Lead Practitioner).
- A strong communicator with the ability to motivate and lead a team.
- Committed to continuous professional development and raising educational standards.
- Commitment to improving teaching and learning and ongoing professional development.
- Flexible approach and readiness to respond to individual pupil needs.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and build trust and openness.
- Discretion, courtesy, honesty, and integrity.
- Reliable, punctual, diligent, and well-organised.
- Open-minded and forward-thinking approach to the positive use of technology in education.
- Passion, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate and inspire pupils for the subject.
